Information we collect
Information you provide
- URLs, phone numbers, and messages you submit for checking. We use this data to perform the scam check and may store it in anonymised form to improve our detection accuracy.
- Contact form submissions — your name, email address, subject, and message when you contact us via our contact page.
- Newsletter subscriptions — your email address if you subscribe to scam alerts.
- Account information — if you create an account, we store your name, email address, and encrypted password.
Information collected automatically
- IP address — used for rate limiting to prevent abuse of our free checking service. We do not store IP addresses long-term or use them for tracking.
- Country code — derived from your IP address via Vercel's infrastructure to show you region-relevant scam alerts. We do not store this beyond the duration of your session.
- Usage data — anonymised analytics including page views, session duration, and traffic sources, collected via Google Analytics. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Cookies — we use essential cookies for session management and analytics cookies for Google Analytics. See our cookie section below.
How we use your information
- To perform scam checks and return results to you
- To improve the accuracy of our detection engine using anonymised scan data
- To respond to your contact form messages
- To send you scam alert newsletters if you have subscribed
- To prevent abuse and enforce rate limits on our free service
- To analyse website traffic and improve our content and user experience

We do not use your data for targeted advertising, we do not sell your data to third parties, and we do not share your data with third parties except as described in this policy.
Third-party services
To provide our scam detection service, we share submitted URLs with the following third-party threat intelligence services. By submitting a URL for checking, you acknowledge that it will be sent to these services:
- IPQualityScore — URL reputation and fraud scoring. Their privacy policy is available at ipqualityscore.com/privacy-policy
- PhishDestroy — open-source phishing domain database. No personal data is transmitted — only the domain being checked.
- Google Safe Browsing — URL safety checking. Google's privacy policy applies at policies.google.com/privacy
We also use the following services to operate Scampede:
- Vercel — hosting and infrastructure
- Neon — database hosting
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Google Analytics — anonymised website analytics
- Google AdSense — display advertising
Cookies
We use the following types of cookies:
- Essential cookies — required for the website to function, including authentication sessions for logged-in users. These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies — Google Analytics cookies that collect anonymised data about how visitors use our site. You can opt out using Google's opt-out tools or a browser extension.

Data retention
- Scan data — anonymised scan results are retained indefinitely to improve our detection database. No personally identifiable information is retained with scan records.
- Contact form messages — retained for up to 12 months after your enquiry is resolved.
- Account data — retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.
- Newsletter subscriptions — retained until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion — request deletion of your personal data
- Objection — object to certain types of processing
- Portability — request your data in a portable format
