Credit card — AMERICAN EXPRESS COMPANY (NC)

Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card. Summary : I applied for a business credit card through American Express. The application clearly stated that my Social Security Number ( SSN ) was only needed to verify my identity. Despite this, I received a denial letter stating that my personal credit score ( FICO ) from Experian was used to make the decision. I did not authorize a credit inquiry for the purposes of determining creditworthiness, and the language on the application led me to believe none would occur.
