Information belongs to someone else. I recently went into XXXX XXXX to purchase a mattress. While there, an employee offered to check what financing options existed. I was assured that they would just perform a soft pull that would not affect my credit ( I verified with the sales associate multiple times before proceeding ). After the employee was requiring me to verbally give more information than I was comfortable with in the store ( eg annual income ), I decided to pay for the mattress in full in the store. After the purchase, I confirmed again that there would only be a pre-qualification soft inquiry ( if any ) and that there would be no impact to my credit report or score. A few days later, I got notifications from both XXXX and XXXX that I opened a credit card with a XXXX limit.
